ITINERARY:

DAY 1:  VISIT ANGKOR THOM.  BAYON TEMPLES.  TA PROHM.   ANGKOR WAT

A.M: After breakfast we will meet and welcome you with a professional tour guide and a friendly driver at your hotel or guest house. First we go to the Ancient Fortified Walled City of Angkor Thom.  Passing giant statues of Gods and Demons on both sides of the road we enter through the massive South Gate with its gigantic carved faces.

Inside are the amazing stone faces of the Bayon Temple, The Royal Enclosure, Terrace Of The Leper King and the 350 meters long Terrace Of The Elephants.

From there you go to the stunning Ta Prohm, with huge tree roots bursting through its walls, making it a totally unique other world experience. (Sequences from the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider were filmed here.)

Lunch at a local restaurant (Optional and not included in tour price.)

P.M: In the afternoon after visiting some smaller Temples, we will arrive at the Jewel in Angkor’s Crown. The jaw dropping Angkor Wat is sheer genius; nothing you have seen in photo’s or on TV can prepare you for its breathtaking majesty. Walk across the sandstone causeway crossing over the moat and into Angkor Wat itself. A truly amazing experience you will never forget. You may even see some young Cambodians getting married there.

Later we will watch the sunset over Angkor Wat.

Return to your Hotel or Guest House.

Optional extra: Early in the evening after you have showered, changed and relaxed you will be taken to enjoy a very Special Khmer Dinner while you watch Traditional Khmer Apsara Dancing. The cost of this delightful extra is just $12 per person.

Then back to your Hotel or Guest House for overnight stay.

DAY 2:  VISIT PRASAT KRAVAN.  BANTEAY KDEI.  PRE RUP.  TA SOM.  PREAH NEAK POAN & MORE.

A.M:  We will first visit Prasat Kravan is uninspiring from the outside, but inside the carvings are real treasures. This Temple was partially restored in 1968. It now shows the carvings in all their spleen dour.

We next visit Banteay Kdei is a huge Buddhist Monastery, its four entrances show the faces of Avalokite shvara. Close by is Srah Srang which was reserved for the King and his wives.

After these places we move on to Pre Rup is a pyramid shaped Temple which may have been a Royal Cremation Site. Next on our tour is Eastern Mebon with its corners guarded by carved stone figures of elephants.

P.M: After lunch we go to Ta Som with its huge strangler fig, a great place to take photos.

Preah Neak Poan is next on our tour. The island Temple, whose fountains once spouted holy water.

We now travel to Preah Khan with its towered enclosures it is still in very good condition.

Phnom Bakheng. Around 6 p.m. you will watch the sunset at this Temple, which is the best viewing spot in Angkor to see sunsets. (Optional)

Then back to the Hotel or Guest House for overnight stay.

DAY 3: VISIT BANTEAY SREI.  BANTEAY SAMRE.  KOLEN MOUNTAIN (PHNOM KOLEN)

A.M: After breakfast, you will depart on a full day tour of the Holy mountain of Phnom Kulen, a major symbolic importance for Cambodians as the birthplace of the ancient Khmer Empire. Visit the river of 1000 lingas, Preah Ang Thom, a 16th century Buddhist monastery notable for the giant reclining Buddha and the waterfalls of Phnom Kulen.

P.M: We will visit the Gem of Angkor Temples, Banteay Srei. A Hindu Temple dedicated to Shiva. It is made from stones of a Pinkish hue and has some of the most amazing carvings in all of Angkor. Next we go to Bateay Samre, which dates from the same period as Angkor Wat. We also visit a local village to see them make Rice Paper and Palm Wine.

Then back to the Hotel or Guest House for overnight stay.

DAY 4:  A FULL DAY TRIP TO KOH KER AND BENG MELEA TEMPLE.

A.M: After breakfast we will guide you to visit Koh Ker was once an ancient capital of Cambodia, located in Srayong Cheung village, Srayong commune, Kulen district, about 49 kilometers west of the provincial town. The Koh Ker complex is on the Chhork Koki highland. It was built by King Jayavaraman IV (AD 928-942). Koh Ker temple is 35 meters high, and its design resembles a seven-stepped stupa. The temple faces west toward Angkor city. It was built to worship Treypuvanesvara, the god of happiness.

P.M: Visit the Beng Mealea is an overgrown ruin 90mn away from Siem Reap, preserved to be in natural condition. It is huge, but little known, largely untouched: some parts are very well preserved, other are ruined. Besides this temple, we see a small quarry where sandstone was cut to build the temple. The technique used to cut the stones will be explained there. We may take more than an hour to visit the entire Temple.

P.M: In the afternoon, will visit Pre Rup, the mountain-temple, Ta Som, Neak Pean, a fountain built in the middle of a pool and representing the paradisiacal Himalayan mountain-lake, Eastern Mebon, guarded at its corner by stone figures of harnessed elephants and Preah Khan, built by the King Jayavarman VII, a place of towered enclosures and shoulder-hugging corridors.

Around 6:00PM, you will enjoy your sunset at the Phnom BaKheng. (optional)

DAY 4:  TODAY VISIT TONLESAP LAKE AND CAMBODIA CULTURAL VILLAGE

A.M: After breakfast, we will go to Tonle Sap Lake where you will have the opportunity to learn about life on the water see the floating village and including the floating school. Tonle Sap is Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake, the size of which quadruples during the wet season.

Then back to the Hotel or Guest House and relax.

P.M: Leave the hotel to visit the Cambodian Cultural Village to enjoy scenes of Cambodian life, culture and history.
